Half day – Canoeing on the river Sioule – Car drive 25 mins.
Do not forget to pack some dry clothes. Drive from Vergheas, via Espinasse to the town of Menat. Menat is a medieval city with a nice cloister church in the centre. The cloister is now closed but you can still visit the church and the cloister corridor with beautiful sculptures. From Menat you proceed a short distance on the Route Nationale from Montluçon to Clermont-Ferrand to Pont de Menat. The big bridge over the river Sioule. There, on your left, just over the bridge, you will find the place where you can rent your canoe and where the route down the river starts. After your canoe-ing experience a car will bring you, and your canoe, back to Pont de Menat. For more information on renting a canoe see here. After your canoe trip have a look around. Discover the old Roman bridge over the Sioule river almost next to the new broad bridge which you crossed before. The Roman bridge is so narrow that a car can hardly pass. Yet, in the days of the roman empire, whole armies crossed that bridge! When you look up, you can see the ruins of Chateau Rocher towering over the Sioule river. The Chateau was built to control traffic over the Sioule river, in the days that roads were scarce. The ruins are definitely worth a visit and are a great place for a picnic.

Half day – Cycling through the gorges of the Sioule river – Visit to Ébreuil (03) – Car drive 25 mins.
Just before the bridge over the river Sioule, you see on your left side a road sign pointing to Ebreuil. Enter there and find a spot to park and unload your bicycles. Then, after a while, you loose the river and there is a little climbing to do. The medieval city of Ebreuil will reward you with it´s beautiful buildings, it´s market place and it´s church. Continue to where the bridge in the center of Ebreuil crosses the river Sioule again, and find at your left a elevated path along the river with picnic tables ready for your luncheon.
